“Why did you put the “R” in front of the “T” ?”
“Because there is no space behind.”
Recently a friend of mine, Liwei, just got promoted to Uncle level. And he was sharing with me the feeling of being Uncle. There’s added responsibility to that “rank”. And it makes you wonder how fast time flies and how we were once nephews of our Uncles as well. And now they are Grand Uncles… haha. That got me thinking about “being Uncle” myself again.
Above was the conversation that took place between my 4 yrs old nephew and me. Just how adorable and creative they can get sometimes. He wanted to draw a Tiger, but unfortunately he didn’t know how to. He got angry with himself because of that and stomped away. After some persuasion, I persuaded him to come back to the drawing board with me, this time with me guiding him. I started drawing on another piece of paper while he follow and drew on his with the spelling. And the result was the piece on the right. After which, he took another piece of paper and drew another piece without any guidance at all. That was the piece on the left. Both pieces were done by him. When asked why he putted the R in front, he just answered innocently that there was no space. =) I am particularly proud of him. =)
There is so much to learn from these kids. Perhaps we once knew it, but we lost it as we grew up. Sometimes we forget how it is like to be a child, being playful, child-like and no boundaries. As we grew up, we begin to box ourselves in with limitations. And next thing we know, we hit the books and spend the next 16 years buried in “how-to” books by people who learnt things by experimenting. By the time we are to decide what we want to do, we have already forgotten the dreams and castles we once built when we were children.
It is easy to loss track of one’s “child-likeness”. But it is also easy to be reminded of it by just looking at these adorable children and their reasoning. Their creativity and energy(those with expriences should understand!) knows no boundaries, and when they sleep, they just forget everything. Perhaps we should learn to be like them, tackle life and work with all the energy we have, and to rest and let go of everything when we rest. The younger generations always have something to teach us
Why not take on the world with their curiosity, creativity and energy, at the same time rest and enjoy life like there is nothing to worry? They possess the best approach to life. =)
Perhaps we do know, just that we forgotten it.
Regards
Lee
